December 30, 1916 - Grigori Rasputin is poisoned, shot (twice) and thrown into the Malaya Nevka River in St. Petersburg. His body is removed from the tomb in March 1917 and (allegedly) burned. March-May, 1945 - NKGB (KGB precursor) operatives under special order from Director Lavrentiy Beria recover extensive material from the Nazi Ahnenerbe occult research agency and return it to special institutes in Leningrad and Moscow. August 29, 1949 - Simultaneous with first Soviet atomic bomb test, Special Unit X of the MGB (KGB precursor) is established by special order of Joseph Stalin. Its remit - investigation, containment, study and neutralization of 'advanced science' phenomena. March 7, 1953 - Special Unit X is detached from the MGB and established as Krasnaya Zarya (Red Dawn), an independent organization under the nominal supervision of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It consists of six Units dedicated to various aspects of 'advanced science.'
